International Star Registry Ripoff

Man, I wish I could sell something to people that didn't cost me a thing.  Something I didn't really have to own, or for that matter, no one could really own.  Let's see, I could sell stock in some non-existent company.  Hmmm.  Maybe I could sell plots on the moon.

Wait, I know!  I am going to sell the stars!  Thats it!  I'll just name the stars after people for money.  Suckers will pay for anything!

What's that?  I can't do that?  I have to discover a star to name it?  Crap, that will take some actual work.  Wait, I almost forgot.  People are stupid!  I can say I named a star after you.  I can send some pretty paper off my printer and call it a 'parchment certificate'.  Maybe include a star chart I can download for free from the internet.

Still though, I won't actually be naming the star after the person.  I need to come up with something to make it sound legitimate.  Something to convince a long list of idiots that they didn't get ripped off.  What to do.

Holy mackerel, That's it!  If I take the list of idiots who sent me money for something I don't own, then I pay some shady publisher a few hundred bucks to publish the list, then I can say the name is "registered in book form with the US Copyright Office."  Hell, any book that is published in the US is in the copyright office.  The name won't be recognized by anyone in the scientific community or anywhere else except for me and my 'book', but what do I care?  What an awesome scam!
